A conversation with M7, founder of Oddazo.
Let's start with the name. Who is M7?
M7: That's me. The 7 comes from numerology: people who follow it say I'm a life path 7, the analyst, the one who always asks why. Whether you believe in that or not, it describes me. I can't take anything at face value. I have to break it down until it makes sense.
So how did someone like that end up in betting?
M7: Like most Nigerians, through football. But I'll be honest: when I started, I wasn't analysing anything. I was chasing the big one. I'd stack 10, 15, 20 games on one slip, with odds in the thousands. I'd look at the potential win and already be spending it in my head.
How did that go?
M7: (laughs) Badly. I lost slip after slip. And it was always one game: a late equaliser, a red card, a team that had no business drawing. I kept going back because I believed the next one was “the one”.
What changed?
M7: One day I sat down and added up everything I had spent. I didn't like the number at all. That was my wake-up call. I asked myself: if this were a business, would I run it like this? No budget, no plan, no records? Of course not.
So you started treating it like a business.
M7: Exactly. I set a fixed budget, money I could afford to lose and nothing more. I stopped chasing big odds and played small ones: 2 odds, 3 odds, games I had actually studied. And I wrote down every bet, win or lose.
Did you stop losing?
M7: No, and I want to be clear about that. I still lost. Everybody loses. But over time my wins began to outweigh my losses, and for the first time I could see exactly where my money was going.
What did the analyst in you notice?
M7: That among thousands of matches every week, there are small pockets where the numbers lean slightly your way. They're not sure things and they're not “fixed games”. They're small edges, and they're worth looking for if you're patient.

What would you tell someone reading this right now?
M7: Treat it like life. You win some, you lose some. What matters is having a plan, knowing your limits and not letting one bad day push you into a worse one. Play small. Play smart. And if it ever stops being fun, stop.
